The event
On Sunday April, 2nd 2023 an amazing event took place at Due Torri Hotel in Verona: the official presentation of the new San Michele della Chiesa Valpolicella Superiore DOC 2013 limited edition.
In the frame of the historic center of Verona, I was pleased to welcome all my guests in this exclusive location where I shared the story of what for me is one of the exceptional wines in the collection of Ugolini wines.
The wine: San Michele della Chiesa Valpolicella Superiore DOC 2013 limited edition
Starting from the name, San Michele della Chiesa, the same as the hill that houses the rows of vines, where once stood the brolo cured by the monks custodians of the parish of San Michele. They cultivated the vines to produce precious wines to donate to their superior, the Abbot of what was then the monastery of San Zeno, today the Basilica.
You can easly guess how in those times, the monks had a great knowledge of agronomics.: to opt for the opposite side of the hill, instead of the land adjacent to the church, tuff and exposed to the south-east allows a good ripeness of the fruits that give life to a fresh and savory wine, with a strong territorial imprint.
Today as then, a modus operandi is used that meets the demands of nature to vegetate at its best. Respect for the needs of the territory for me is always the core of the production of my wines.
The symbol of the San Michele della Chiesa: the sword
Particular attention was addressed primarily tothe label, matte black with white graphics and where, on top, is depicted one shield colored in copper with a cross engraved on it: the one used by Saint Michael the Archangel in the fight against Lucifer, the divine angel to whom is dedicated the Romanesque church located next to the manor house.
Saint Michael the Archangel is illustrated in all the paintings with the sword, the one he will use against Lucifer; the same that you can see and feel on the bottle. Also in this case I wanted to give a further touch of class to my wine, enclosing in a single product many references to the Archangel.
